What To Expect
When you contact us for a quote, these are the steps we take:
We will come to your location and look at the stump(s). If you are there, we will discuss your plans for the area after the stump is gone and the options available. If we don’t meet in person, then we may have a few follow-up questions for you.

The quote is determined by these factors:
- The customer’s plans for the area after removal. This helps determine the depth of the grind needed. A shallow grind of 4-6” below the surrounding grade will allow for planting grass/lawn restoration. A deep grind of 12-24” allows for flowerbeds, shrubs and future tree planting.
- The size of the stump and how much surface roots need to be removed.
- The species (hard/soft wood).
- Access to the stump(s) – fences, gates, steps, terrain and surrounding landscape.

If you accept the quote, the next steps will be:
- Down To Earth Stump Grinding will order a utility locate to identify any utilities that may be located in the grinding area.
- We grind the stump(s) and surface roots to a depth to achieve the customer’s future plans.
- The dirt and grindings (wood chips) will be raked into a smooth, slightly raised area where the stump was removed. This area will settle as the wood chips decompose.
- Optionally, for additional cost, we can remove the dirt/grindings, add new topsoil and plant grass seed over the area.
