• The customer’s plans for the area after removal. This helps determine the depth of the grind needed. A shallow grind of 4-6” below the surrounding grade will allow for planting grass/lawn restoration. A deep grind of 12-24” allows for flowerbeds, shrubs and future tree planting.
  • The size of the stump and how much surface roots need to be removed.
  • The species (hard/soft wood).
  • Access to the stump(s) – fences, gates, steps, terrain and surrounding landscape.

If you accept the quote, the next steps will be:

  • Down To Earth Stump Grinding will order a utility locate to identify any utilities that may be located in the grinding area.
  • We grind the stump(s) and surface roots to a depth to achieve the customer’s future plans.
  • The dirt and grindings (wood chips) will be raked into a smooth, slightly raised area where the stump was removed. This area will settle as the wood chips decompose.
  • Optionally, for additional cost, we can remove the dirt/grindings, add new topsoil and plant grass seed over the area.
